EROAD Inspect allows you to create custom templates when needed for certain vehicles or assets. Review the following template settings to understand how the template affects an inspection when certain settings are enabled. Each item receives the default settings of the template.
- Click Inspect > Templates to open the Templates list.
- Click on a template name to view the Template Details dialog box, which is illustrated below.
Template Settings
Review the following settings when designing your custom templates. See Procedure to Create a Template for step-by-step instructions.
Details
The Details section includes the following three fields:
- Template Name — Identifies the type of vehicle or asset for which the template is used
- Description — Provides more information about the vehicle or asset
- Not Safe to Use Message — Displays a message on the summary screen of the Inspect app if a particular item fails, thereby making the vehicle unsafe to operate; allows a maximum of 300 characters
Item Defaults
The Item Defaults section includes three sets of toggle switches:
- Inspection Type — Specify if the template applies to a Pre-Trip inspection or a Post-Trip inspection
(Pre-Trip is the default toggle, but switch on Post-Trip if it should be included) - Available Results — Identify the expected result, e.g., Pass and Fail, or N/A
(Pass and Fail are both enabled defaults, but users may switch on N/A, if applicable) - This means that while the toggle is enabled, the vehicle is safe to use by default and the Not Safe to Use Message is not displayed.
- Switch off this toggle if the vehicle becomes unsafe when the item fails, and you want the Not Safe to Use Message to display at the end of the inspection.
Category Options
Categories are used to identify specific areas of the inspection. They provide structure when inspecting a large list of items. EROAD has designed a set of pre-defined categories to assist customers when designing their templates. Using pre-defined categories allows advanced vehicle health reporting due to consistent data integrity. Customers may contact EROAD if custom categories are needed.
Adding Items to Categories
The category must be filled with new inspection items after it is created, and several items may be added to a single category. Each item receives the default settings of your template unless the item settings are customized at the item level. This customization is accomplished when the item is added to the category.
Adding Hints to Items
Each item can include an item hint, which displays on the inspection item to guide the driver through inspecting the item.
Changing the Order of Categories or Items
The order in which categories appear in the template is how they are displayed to the driver. EROAD recommends that templates are set up to guide the drivers around the vehicle or asset in a logical manner. Likewise, internal checks or external checks can be set up in separate categories. Use the Re-order icon to change the order in which categories are displayed in the template list.
Using Category / Item Controls
The following controls are used when adding categories to your new templates.
Click the Compress icon to close a category or item section.
Click the Edit icon to revise a category or item name.
Click the Delete icon to delete a category or item.
Click and hold, then drag the Re-order icon to move a category or item to a different position in the list.
