Geofences in MyEROAD enable you to report on vehicle activity in geographic areas that are of interest for your business.
Geofences can help you to better understand your fleets’ utilisation, measure time spent in MyEROAD, monitor time on the road, ensure safe speeds are maintained in high risk locations e.g., school zones and high crash areas, and help you fine-tune your off-road claims.
You can draw geofences on maps in:
- Activity / Geofences
- Reports / Daily Activity
- Administration / Geofences
You can monitor your vehicles’ geofence visits in:
- Reports / Geofence Activity
- Reports / Daily Acitivity
- Reports / Fleet Summary
TIP: A geofence should be at least 250 metres or 820 feet in diameter to be big enough for EROAD hardware units to detect activity in the geofence. The maximum area of a geofence is 25 square kilometres or 9.65 miles.
NOTE: MyEROAD users with only the basic role can view but not create, edit or remove geofences. Some Unit Managers might not have access to the Geofence tab if the Allow Geofence Access checkbox under Roles and Permissions is disabled.
Creating Geofences
Perform the following steps to create a geofence.
- Go to a map screen in MyEROAD, for example in Activity / Geofences.
- Zoom or pan the map to the area you would like to geofence.
NOTE: The address search functionality can help you locate any street address or point of interest on your map. Enter full or partial address information or a point of interest in the search box and select one of the suggestions listed.
- Click the Draw Geofence tool located on the top left of the map .
The mouse will change from an arrow to an arrow with a point. - Click on the map once to mark one point of the Geofence. Then release the mouse, move the mouse to the next place and click and release the mouse again.
- Continue clicking, releasing and moving the mouse until you are ready to close the Geofence. Complex Geofences may require many points.
- Double-click to close the Geofence. The Save New Geofence screen appears.
- Enter a name and select the types you would like to apply to the Geofence e.g. Customer Site, Off-Road Area etc. Some types require additional information, find detailed info here.
- Select Tags as required (find detailed info here).
- Select Notification Setup as required (find detailed info here).
- Click Save.
Managing Geofences
Perform the following steps to change the shape of a Geofence.
- Select a Geofence by clicking on it on the map or in the list.
- Zoom in, if required.
TIP: Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard, click on the map and drag across the map to zoom in on an area. - Click on Edit or delete geofence in the geofence bubble.
Handles will appear that you can click and drag as required. - Click and drag handles as required. Extra handles will appear as you move handles to allows for a greater level of detail.
- Remove handles by moving your mouse over a handle and press Delete key on your keyboard.
- Click Save once finished
Changing Geofence Properties
Perform the following steps to change geofence properties.
- Select a Geofence by clicking on it on the map or in the list.
- Click Edit or delete geofence in the geofence bubble.
- Edit Name as required.
NOTE: Remember that changing a name affects your Geofence reporting. - Tick and/or untick Types as required.
- Edit Notification Setup as required.
- Edit the Virtual Speed Camera Speed Limit as required.
- Click Save.
Deleting a Geofence
Perform the following steps to delete a geofence.
- Go to Activity / Geofences or Administration / Geofences.
Geofences will appear in alphabetical order in a list on the left side of the screen.
NOTE: If you have many Geofences, paging will appear at the bottom of the list. Click on the arrows to change pages. - Select a Geofence and click Edit or delete geofence in the Geofence bubble.
- Click Delete.
- Click Ok to confirm.
Hiding or Unhiding a Geofence
Perform the following steps to hide or unhide a Geofence.
- Go to Activity / Geofences or Administration / Geofences.
Geofences will appear in alphabetical order in a list on the left side of the screen.
NOTE: If you have many geofences, paging will appear at the bottom of the list. Click on the arrows to change pages. - Select a Geofence and click Hide geofence in the Geofence bubble.
The Geofence will be no longer visible on the map. - Click on the Geofence in the list to make it visible again.
