Overspeed Dashboard

Overspeed events are individual points in a trip where a vehicle has exceeded the posted speed. Overspeed sessions are events grouped by posted speed regions.

Why does EROAD use the term Overspeed?

The difference between ‘speeding’ and ‘overspeed’ is getting caught.

‘Speeding’ is an internationally recognised term meaning a person driving a vehicle has been documented exceeding a road’s posted speed limit by a law enforcement agency.

Overspeed is an EROAD term used to mean a vehicle has been detected going faster than a road’s posted speed. There is no law enforcement notification involved (unless a law enforcement agency happens to document the excessive speed).

EROAD is firmly on the side of the customer, and would rather warn drivers of a safety concern so they may immediately correct their behavior, avoiding legal action.
