Creating and editing geofences

Note: These features and explanations do not apply to Depot, EROAD's legacy version of MyEROAD.

Geofences are created in the Map view by engaging the draw tool, marking out at least 3 points of a closed polygon, and

To Create a geofence:

  1. Geofences (List view) > Create geofence, OR
  2. Geofences (Map view) > Draw tool
    Note: Both actions engage the Draw tool to define your geofence.

  3. Adjust the map position and zoom level as needed

  4. With Draw highlighted, set at least 3 points to define a geofence

  5. Close the geofence by either clicking on the first point, or double-clicking on your last point.
  6. Adjust the geofence as needed. You may reposition the initial points, or drag the line-middle points in or out to add more points.
  7. Once closed, the geofence details panel will open, ready for editing.

Editing Geofences

After drawing a geofence you may start configuring it.

You may also select an existing geofence, revealing its detail panel, and clicking Edit.

To edit a geofence:

  1. Create a new geofence or select an existing one. Its details panel will open.

 There are a number of options available in defining a geofence's behavior. Mandatory items are marked *

  • Set geofence name: This must be unique
  • Type: Types behave identically, with two exceptions: Stop Watch, and Virtual Speed Camera. Enabling either or both of these options displays extra time or speed fields where you can enter limits. After setting:
    • Stop Watch: Vehicles within the zone for longer than the specified period will generate an alert.
    • Virtual Speed Camera: Vehicles traveling faster than the specified speed will generate an alert.
  • Tags: Tags are metadata added to alerts for easy sorting, searching or filtering reasons. Commonly, tags are used for accounting, tax or area management purposes.
