Geofence Notifications

* Only available to vehicles with EROAD tracking service enabled (AVL).

Functionality:

Geofence notifications can be set up for a geofence to alert recipients by email when a vehicle enters and/or leaves the geofence.

The vehicle needs to generate an activity while inside the geofence to trigger an alert and therefore the geofence needs to be at least 250 metres in diameter to be big enough for the EROAD unit to detect activity in the geofence. The maximum size of a geofence is 25 square kilometres (9.65 square miles).

Who can manage Geofence Notifications?:

Users with these roles can manage Geofences and Geofence Notifications:

  • Client Administrators
  • Unit Managers
  • RUC Users

Who can receive Geofence Notifications?:

Any user can be setup to receive Geofence Notifications for vehicles they have access to - irrespective of the role the user has.

  1. Select the Geofences tab in the Activity screen (or select the Geofences tab in the Admin area if the Activity screen is not available to you).

  4. Under Recipients, click the "Add/Remove" link.
  5. Choose recipients you want to receive the notification by clicking on the arrow next to the user's name. Selected users will show up in the right hand panel.

    Note:

If you also want to receive geofence notifications you must add your own name as well.

  6. Click the "Apply" button.

    Choose recipients
  7. Then click the "Save" button.

When saving the geofence notification, the system will check the size of the geofence.

As a geofence needs to be at least 250 metres in diameter to be big enough for the EROAD unit to detect activity inside the geofence, a warning is shown if the geofence seems too small:

"Geofence is at risk of being too small to trigger geofence entry or exit notifications. Please consider making your geofence bigger."

Either click the button "Save Anyway" or edit the geofence to make it bigger.

Note:

The recipients need to be setup before the notification is triggered as notifications cannot be delivered retrospectively.
